What an exciting time it has been for Miami SCORES in its first six months! Having launched in June 2024, the organization is now closing out its Fall 2024 programming this December.
With the help of incredible staff, generous donors, and enthusiastic supporters, Miami SCORES has had the opportunity to work with talented and energetic poet-athletes across Miami's Liberty City and Little Haiti neighborhoods!

June 4, 2024: Launch of Miami SCORES
In partnership with Concacaf, Miami SCORES launched as the 13th affiliate of America SCORES—North America's largest soccer and literacy youth development organization. The launch event, held at Earlington Heights Elementary School, saw the attendance of over 200 students who played soccer with the newly appointed Executive Director, Rob Uvanović, and several Miami SCORES, Concacaf, and other partners.
September 30, 2024: First Day of Miami SCORES Programming
Miami SCORES' first season, the Fall 2024 season, commenced in partnership with six Title I Miami-Dade County Public Schools across Liberty City and Little Haiti. Students showed up to their fields and classrooms after school in preparation for their first soccer and poetry lessons!
November 9, 2024: Inaugural Miami SCORES Cup
With the support of participating companies, sponsors, advisory board members, and volunteers, the inaugural Miami SCORES Cup was a success! More than 20 local companies played at the Cup and helped Miami SCORES raise over $100,000 for its free soccer and literacy programming for Title I public school youth. The three 2024 Miami SCORES Cup champions were I Squared, Jefferies, and PwC. The Miami SCORES Cup is a part of the SCORES Cup series, the world's largest annual corporate soccer tournament series, which takes place annually across 16 cities in North America.
November 15, 2024: Fall Frenzy
Poet-athletes from all six Miami SCORES-affiliated schools gathered together at Kelsey Pharr Elementary after school to play soccer and listen to each other's poetry performances. They also enjoyed receiving soccer-related temporary tattoos, thanks to volunteers from Bank of America!
November 21, 2024: Give Miami Day
Although it was Miami SCORES' first time participating in Give Miami Day, Miami's city-wide day of giving, it did quite well in raising funds for its soccer and literacy programming and student showcases! Thanks to the loving support of very generous donors, Miami SCORES reached past its initial $10,000 goal and officially raised $16,600.
December 6, 2024: Media Day with MDCPS
On the last Game Day of the Fall 2024 season, Miami-Dade County Public Schools visited the Earlington Heights vs. Jesse J. McCrary soccer game to capture what the Miami SCORES program is all about. It was a great opportunity for the poet-athletes to express the impact that Miami SCORES has had on their personal growth, as they performed poetry, played their game, and participated in interviews.
December 10, 2024: Finalized 2025 Miami SCORES Marathon Team
The 2025 Miami SCORES Marathon Team is officially set and ready to run at the Life Time Miami Marathon® in representation of Miami SCORES in February! The team consists of 11 runners who are committed to running either the half or full marathon events and raising funds for Miami SCORES. Let's wish them luck!
December 13, 2024: Poetry SLAM
The Poetry SLAM served as the culmination of Miami SCORES' Fall 2024 Season, where all poet-athletes had the opportunity to perform their poetry to their family, friends, and the greater community of Miami SCORES supporters. Individual poets and teams received awards in celebration of their inspiring words and poetry!
